Dr. Michael Seidman & the Potential Benefits of Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a type of polyphenol that can be found naturally in a variety of sources including red grapes, red wine, berries and peanut butter. The compound is thought to have antioxidant properties such as protecting the body against damage that can cause increased risk for conditions including heart disease and cancer. For reasons such as these, Resveratrol is an ingredient in our Vi-pak, GO and PRO. It has gained a lot of attention for its potential anti-aging and obesity-related benefits, and recently has been identified as having the potential to protect against cognitive and hearing decline too.
Red wine has long been identified as something that could help reduce LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol, prevent blood clots and prevent damage to blood vessels and it appears as though Resveratrol could be one of the main contributors to these benefits. As previously mentioned, Resveratrol is one of the ingredients found in our Vi-pak, GO and PRO because it has been linked to helping protect the body from obesity and diabetes amongst other things. A new study has shown that there may be additional benefits to consuming this compound.
According to a published laboratory study from Henry Ford Hospital, Resveratrol may have the potential to protect against hearing and cogitative decline. Michael D. Seidman, the lead author in the study and Director of the Division of Otologic/Neurotologic Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital says, “Resveratrol is a very powerful chemical that seems to protect against the body’s inflammatory process as it relates to aging, cognition and hearing loss.”
It appears as though the more we learn about Resveratrol, the more potential benefits are linked to it. For example, it is also thought that Resveratrol could protect nerve cells from damage and the buildup of plaque that can lead to Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers believe that many of the potential benefits are due to the fact that resveratrol activates the SIRT1 gene. This gene is a biological mechanism that appears to protect the body against the harmful effects of obesity and various diseases related to aging.
Research, such as the study conducted by Henry Ford Hospital, gives us the belief that by incorporating products like GO, PRO and Vi-pak into your diet you are more likely to see positive changes in your health.
